U.S. approves sale of 31 MQ-9B SkyGuardian drones to India

The United States Department of State has approved a possible Foreign Military Sale of MQ-9B SkyGuardian Remotely Piloted Aircraft to India.

L3Harris is providing 11 state-of-the-art WESCAM MX-20D EO/IR sensor systems to General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) for Canada’s fleet of MQ-9B SkyGuardian Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS). Delivery of L3Harris’ systems to GA-ASI is scheduled to start in 2024 with the first aircraft delivery to the RCAF expected in 2028.

GA-ASI and EDGE announced an agreement today to integrate EDGE smart weapons onto GA-ASI’s MQ-9B SkyGuardian RPA.

On May 1, 2023, the Royal Air Force (RAF) began training its first cohort of pilots, sensor operators, and mission intelligence coordinators on operating its new Protector Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) at the Flight Test & Training Center (FTTC) in Grand Forks, N.D. The FTTC is owned and operated by General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), which has begun deliveries of Protector RPAS to the RAF. Protector is a derivative of the MQ-9B SkyGuardian and is initially being flown in the USA for training.
