TAI and Airbus sign strategic agreement to support export of Hurjet jet trainers to Spain

Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) and Airbus have signed a partnership agreement to accelerate the export of Türkiye’s Hurjet jet trainer aircraft to Spain. The deal was formalised during the International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF) 2025, currently taking place in Istanbul.

The agreement outlines the roles of both companies in the Hurjet project and supports Spain’s procurement process for new jet trainers. It aims to speed up the integration of the Hurjet into the Spanish Air Force’s inventory.

As part of the partnership, up to 30 Hurjet aircraft are expected to be supplied to Spain. The final sales contract is anticipated to be signed by the end of this year, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2028.

“This strategic partnership with a global player like Airbus is not just an export success,” said TAI General Manager Mehmet Demiroğlu. “It is also a testament to the technological level that the Turkish aviation industry has reached worldwide.”

Demiroğlu highlighted that the engineering strength of TAI had enabled them to reach a significant milestone in Hurjet’s European journey. “We believe that this agreement will further deepen defence industry cooperation between the two countries and pave the way for Turkish engineering to play a greater role in Europe’s future aviation projects,” he added.

The signing ceremony was attended by Haluk Görgün, President of Türkiye’s Secretariat of Defence Industries, along with senior executives from both TAI and Airbus. The long-term cooperation is expected to enhance defence and aviation ties between Türkiye and Europe.
