Textron Systems has delivered the XM204 Top Attack Munition to the U.S. Army under the current low-rate initial production contract. The anti-vehicle terrain shaping system will support U.S. Army Europe operations.

The delivery followed completion of U.S. Army-led First Article testing in April 2025, which certified the XM204 for Army and allied use. The certification involved rigorous trials to confirm the munition’s target engagement and self-destruct technologies.

The XM204 provides standoff and top attack capabilities designed to block, disrupt and turn enemy forces during terrain shaping operations. It is highly portable, can be rapidly emplaced, and may be employed singly, in multiples or alongside other systems.

“The XM204 is the only system available of its kind providing autonomous terrain shaping capabilities,” said Henry Finneral, Senior Vice President, Weapon Systems. “Counter-mobility missions are critical to the Army’s terrain shaping and forces protection objectives, and the XM204 will provide unmatched capability to U.S. forces and allies.”

“The successful delivery of the XM204 is a testament to the power of collaboration and the need to modernize our terrain shaping capabilities. This achievement is a critical step forward in ensuring our forces maintain a decisive operational advantage on the battlefield,” said Colonel Vinson Morris, PM CCS Project Manager.

According to Textron Systems, the munition meets a key requirement to expand terrain shaping obstacle capabilities as the military prepares to counter peer adversaries.
