Thales said Class 1 and 2 drones have changed the nature of warfare in active conflict zones. The company said these threats have exposed limitations in traditional air defence systems.
The LGR275 Proxy is intended to address the need for more cost-effective counter-drone operations. Thales said the system helps respond to the growing imbalance between interception costs and operational efficiency.
The company said that imbalance can deplete stockpiles, strain defence budgets and affect the sustainability of high-intensity drone warfare operations. The LGR275 Proxy is based on Thales’ proven laser-guided rocket technology.
The new rocket is equipped with a proximity sensor and a military-grade warhead optimised for aerial targets. Thales said the system is suitable for both air-to-air and surface-to-air applications.
Thales said the LGR275 Proxy also demonstrates the innovation and industrial agility of Thales Belgium. The company plans to triple production between 2026 and 2028.
