The contract was officially signed in Koblenz and marks one of the largest service deals in TKMS’s history. It includes upgrades to core systems, particularly the navigation and command and weapons control systems on the four older submarines of the first production batch.
The aim of the programme is to ensure the long-term technological superiority of Germany’s submarine fleet for both national defence and NATO operations. “This important service contract also strengthens our established and trusting cooperation with the German Navy in the area of maintenance,” said Oliver Burkhard, CEO of TKMS.
TKMS will apply its full expertise to maintain the high operational availability of the submarines. “As a maritime powerhouse, we will utilize the full range of services offered by TKMS and contribute to the high operational availability and performance of the German submarine fleet with our many years of expertise,” Burkhard added.
The company continues to play a vital role in Germany’s naval industry, working closely with small and medium-sized enterprises across the country. As a prime contractor, TKMS not only leads in submarine construction but also significantly supports national industrial value creation.
TKMS is recognised globally as a leading supplier of conventional submarines. Its current projects include four additional 212CD submarines for Germany and two more 218SG units for Singapore.
With an order backlog of €18 billion as of May 2025, the company’s production is secured well into the 2040s. The newly concluded service contract further strengthens this position and contributes to a sustained positive outlook in the defence sector.
