“The United States Munitions Stockpiles have, at the medium and upper medium grade, never been higher or better — As was stated to me today, we have a virtually unlimited supply of these weapons,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Wars can be fought ‘forever,’ and very successfully, using just these supplies (which are better than other countries finest arms!),” he continued.
“At the highest end, we have a good supply, but are not where we want to be. Much additional high grade weaponry is stored for us in outlying countries,” Trump added. Earlier Monday, he said the operation in Iran could last “four to five weeks.”
“We have the strongest and most powerful, by far, military in the world, and we will easily prevail,” Trump said at the White House during a Medal of Honor ceremony. “We’re already substantially ahead of our time projections, but whatever the time is, it’s okay. Whatever it takes.”
“From the beginning, we projected four to five weeks, but we have capability to go far longer than that,” he added. The strikes killed Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and Iran responded with counterattacks targeting Israel and Gulf nations.
The conflict has also resulted in the deaths of several U.S. service members, and the president acknowledged that additional casualties are likely. A CNN poll released Monday found that 56 percent of respondents believed “a long-term military conflict between the US and Iran” was “very likely” or “somewhat likely.”
Trump dismissed polling on the conflict. “I think that the polling is very good, but I don’t care about polling,” he told the New York Post.
“I have to do the right thing. I have to do the right thing,” he said. “This should have been done a long time ago.”
Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Monday that Iran posed an “imminent threat” to the United States. Vice President Vance, while defending the strikes, said there is “no way” the president would allow the operation to become a prolonged conflict in the region.
