Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAS) has successfully completed the first flight of the HÜRKUŞ 2, a next-generation training aircraft designed to modernise pilot training for the Turkish Air Force. This achievement highlights Turkey’s commitment to advancing its domestic defence capabilities.

Development of the HÜRKUŞ 2 began on 3 May 2021, with extensive ground testing preceding the maiden flight. The aircraft successfully performed a 20-minute flight from Akıncı Air Base, reaching an altitude of 6,500 feet and a speed of 140 knots.

The HÜRKUŞ 2 incorporates structural weight reductions, advanced aerodynamics, and cutting-edge technology, making it one of the most agile and high-performing training aircraft in its category. Locally produced components, including the canopy, cooling systems, hydraulic pumps, and communication systems, underscore Turkey’s efforts to strengthen its defence industry self-reliance.

Under a 55-aircraft contract with the Defence Industry Presidency, TUSAS will deliver the first 15 HÜRKUŞ 2 aircraft to the Turkish Air Force in 2025, with the remaining 40 to follow by 2027. The HÜRKUŞ 2 is poised to enhance pilot training capabilities and bolster Turkey’s standing in the global defence sector.
