The Turkish defence industry is currently developing several missile systems in line with these objectives. One key project is the Tayfun short-range ballistic missile (SRBM), developed by Roketsan, with a planned range of up to 1000 kilometres. This represents an upgrade from earlier designs with a range of 560 kilometres, based on experience gained from the Bora tactical ballistic missile, which has a range of 280 kilometres. The Tayfun is designed for land-based launches and has been undergoing testing in this configuration.
Roketsan is also working on the Cenk medium-range ballistic missile (MRBM), initially designed for ranges exceeding 1000 kilometres. Erdoğan’s latest remarks suggest that its range could potentially be extended, possibly doubling previous targets.
Additionally, the Gezgin cruise missile is under development, aiming to provide Türkiye with a versatile long-range strike capability. The missile is planned for deployment from multiple platforms, including naval vessels, land-based launchers, and aircraft. Its range is expected to exceed 1000 kilometres, drawing comparisons to the American Tomahawk missile.
President Erdoğan highlighted the ongoing efforts on the Cenk and Gezgin programmes, suggesting that further updates and milestones may be announced in the near future.
