Poland’s request includes equipment and services such as the aircraft engine Component Improvement Program, spare parts, modifications, consumables, repair and return support, and classified and unclassified software and documentation. It also covers U.S. Government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics services as well as other programme support.
The State Department said, “This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a NATO Ally that is a force for political and economic stability in Europe.” Officials added that the programme would strengthen Poland’s ability to sustain its F-35 fleet against current and future threats.
According to the Department, “The proposed sale will improve Poland’s capability to meet current and future threats by increasing the reliability of its F-35 fleet. Poland will have no difficulty absorbing these articles and services into its armed forces.” The sale will not alter the basic military balance in the region.
General Electric Aerospace, based in Evendale, Ohio, will be the principal contractor for the programme. The U.S. Government stated that no offset agreements are currently proposed, and the sale will not require additional American or contractor personnel to be assigned to Poland.
