By Defence Industry Europe

The United States Department of War has announced an extension of its framework agreement with BAE Systems for the supply of M2A4 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles. The contract was concluded by the US Army, represented by the Army Contracting Command at Detroit Arsenal, and BAE Systems.

The deal is valued at more than $396 million and covers an expansion of the framework agreement for additional vehicles. Further executive contracts will be negotiated separately, covering funding and the locations where the work will be carried out.

The agreement is scheduled to run until 30 November 2027. The M2A4 is the latest version of the Bradley, which first entered service in the early 1980s.

The upgrade includes improved crew situational awareness through new optronic systems, observation instruments and the Force XXI Battle Command Brigade and Below (FBCB2) battlefield management system. It also enhances mobility and off-road capability with a redesigned powertrain and increases engine power from 600 to 675 horsepower.

Other modifications include the installation of an auxiliary power unit (APU).
