The PLS A2 is equipped with advanced features such as by-wire functionality for autonomous operation and active safety systems designed to protect soldiers in complex operational environments. These systems support the Army’s multi-domain operations by improving battlefield logistics across dispersed and contested supply lines.
Built with open architecture, the PLS A2 allows for future upgrades, aligning with the Army’s long-term modernisation goals. Pat Williams, Chief Programs Officer for Oshkosh Defense, said: “This award underscores our commitment to partnering with the Army to modernize the heavy tactical fleet quickly and at scale.”
“Together, we are delivering next generation capabilities that keep Soldiers safer for today’s missions while providing a foundation to enable the fleet for the future fight,” Williams added. The FHTV programme also includes the Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMTT) A4, allowing the Army to lower lifecycle costs through the use of common commercial components.
By including both new and recapitalised vehicles, the FHTV V contract supports faster delivery of critical capabilities to soldiers in the field. Recapitalisation involves upgrading existing vehicles in the fleet, offering a cost-effective route to modernisation.
