United States Central Command has launched Operation Hawkeye Strike against ISIS in Syria following an attack on U.S. and partner forces last Saturday. The operation began at 4 pm ET on 19 December under the direction of the Commander in Chief.

CENTCOM forces struck more than 70 targets across multiple locations in central Syria using fighter jets, attack helicopters and artillery. The Jordanian Armed Forces supported the operation with fighter aircraft, while more than 100 precision munitions were used against known ISIS infrastructure and weapons sites.

“This operation is critical to preventing ISIS from inspiring terrorist plots and attacks against the U.S. homeland,” said Brad Cooper, commander of CENTCOM. “We will continue to relentlessly pursue terrorists who seek to harm Americans and our partners across the region.”

Following the 13 December attack on U.S. and Syrian personnel, U.S. and partner forces conducted 10 operations in Syria and Iraq. These actions resulted in the deaths or detention of 23 terrorist operatives.

Over the past six months, U.S. and partner forces in Syria have carried out more than 80 operations. According to CENTCOM, these efforts aimed to eliminate terrorists posing a direct threat to U.S. and regional security.
