On 8 January, United States Central Command (CENTCOM) forces targeted two underground Advanced Conventional Weapon (ACW) storage facilities controlled by Iranian-backed Houthi forces in Yemen.

These facilities, located in Houthi-controlled territories, were reportedly used to launch attacks on U.S. Navy warships and merchant vessels operating in the southern Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.

CENTCOM confirmed there were no injuries or damage to U.S. personnel or equipment during the strikes.

The operation aims to weaken the Houthis’ ability to threaten regional stability and endanger military and civilian maritime traffic in the area.

This move underscores CENTCOM’s broader efforts to counter the influence of Iranian-backed groups in the region.

By targeting these weapon storage sites, the U.S. seeks to ensure the safety of its regional partners and safeguard vital international shipping routes.
