Nimitz will join a previously announced lineup of U.S. Navy and Coast Guard vessels. The review will also include participation from more than 50 allied and partner nations converging on New York Harbor.
The Navy described Nimitz as the most iconic serving aircraft carrier in the U.S. fleet and the lead ship of its class. It said the carrier brings major historical significance to what is planned as the largest international maritime spectacle in U.S. history.
The ship is named for World War II Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz. The Navy said the carrier represents more than 50 years of active global defense, with roles in missions ranging from Operation Desert Storm to Operation Inherent Resolve.
“Adding the USS Nimitz to the INR 250 roster brings the legendary centerpiece of American naval and maritime dominance directly to the heart of this celebration,” said Vice Adm. Doug Perry, commander, U.S. 2nd Fleet. “For five decades, Nimitz Sailors have stood the watch, defending freedom and ensuring global maritime security. USS Nimitz at anchor in New York Harbor alongside our international partners will be a breathtaking tribute to our nation’s 250th anniversary and a powerful demonstration of our Navy’s enduring role in American prosperity and diplomacy.”
The Navy said Nimitz’s participation underscores the core themes of INR 250. These include celebrating international partnerships, showcasing the professionalism of the sailors who make up the fleet and honoring New York City’s historical naval ties.
During the week-long event, Nimitz is expected to serve as a centerpiece of the fleet after the Parade of Sail on July 4. While anchored, the ship expects to host distinguished visitors.
The carrier’s crew of thousands of sailors will also engage with citizens of New York and New Jersey. Activities will include community relations projects, public events and memorial ceremonies.

The Navy said the ship’s presence will highlight both the carrier’s legacy and the role of sailors who continue to operate it. Nimitz’s participation will place the carrier alongside international partners during a major maritime event tied to the U.S. anniversary.
International Naval Review 250 is intended to bring naval forces together in New York Harbor for a public and diplomatic celebration. The Navy said the event will demonstrate the continuing role of maritime power in U.S. prosperity, security and diplomacy.
