The reported strikes included the disabling of the La Carlota air base in Caracas following bombardment, as well as attacks on Air Base No. 3 in Barquisimeto, where F-16 aircraft are stationed, and on the airport in El Hatillo. The helicopter base in Higuerote and the civilian airport in Charallave, located in the Caracas area, were also reported to have been put out of operation after being hit.
According to the same sources, bombardments were carried out against the mountain barracks in Catia La Mar and Fort Tiuna, which houses the Ministry of Defence and the General Command. Strikes were also reported on the Federal Legislative Palace, where the National Assembly meets, and on the Miraflores Palace, the seat of the president and government.
Attacks were additionally reported across parts of Caracas, including the city centre, with the entire southern area said to be without power, as well as in the districts of 23 de Enero, Santa Mónica and Fort Tiuna, and in the city of Los Teques south of the capital. The scale of damage and casualties has not been officially detailed.
Several hours after the start of the operation, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that President Maduro had been captured along with his wife and removed from the country. This announcement is considered to be linked to reports of helicopter formations over Caracas during the night, identified as belonging to the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, known for transporting U.S. special forces.
