Ukraine has requested to buy 3,350 Extended Range Attack Munition missiles and 3,350 Embedded GPS/Inertial Navigation Systems with Selective Availability Anti-Spoofing Module. The package also includes missile containers, support equipment, spare parts, publications, training, and U.S. government and contractor support services.
The State Department said, “This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a partner country that is a force for political stability and economic progress in Europe.” It added that Ukraine will be able to integrate the systems into its armed forces without difficulty.
According to the agency, the proposed sale “will improve Ukraine’s capability to meet current and future threats by further equipping it to conduct self-defense and regional security missions.” It also stressed that the transfer “will not alter the basic military balance in the region.”
Ukraine will finance the purchase with support from Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, and through U.S. Foreign Military Financing. The State Department described the ERAM as “an example of working together with our NATO allies to develop a capable and scalable system capable of being delivered on a fast timeline.”
The principal contractors for the sale will be Zone 5 Technologies and CoAspire. At present, the U.S. Government noted that it is not aware of any offset agreement linked to the deal, saying such arrangements would be defined in negotiations between Ukraine and the companies.
