U.S. to resume GLSDB missile deliveries to Ukraine

By Defence Industry Europe

The United States plans to resume supplying Ukraine with precision-guided GLSDB missiles. These missiles are intended to replace the long-range ATACMS rockets, which Ukrainian forces have reportedly exhausted.

According to Reuters, citing two sources familiar with the weapon system, the GLSDB missiles will be modified to improve their effectiveness against Russian electronic warfare measures. Previously delivered versions lacked these modifications, leading to reduced effectiveness due to Russian jamming capabilities.

The newly adapted GLSDB missiles could reach the frontline within days, as stockpiles are already available in Europe. With a range of up to 160 kilometres, these missiles provide Ukraine with a versatile long-range strike capability against enemy positions.

Developed by Boeing and Saab, GLSDB missiles feature a rocket-propelled system launched from various ground-based platforms. While the US military has similar air-to-ground weapons, the adaptation for ground-based launch systems marks a significant development in their operational use.

Ukrainian forces last deployed GLSDB missiles a month ago, and the renewed supply is expected to bolster their long-range strike capabilities. The updated version aims to enhance resilience against Russian countermeasures, ensuring more effective battlefield performance.
