The confirmation follows the signing of the landmark Trinity House Agreement on Defence Co-operation in October in London. This agreement represents the first bilateral defence cooperation of its kind between the UK and Germany.
On Thursday, 15th May, German Federal Minister of Defence, Boris Pistorius, hosted UK Defence Secretary John Healey MP in Berlin for the first Trinity House Defence Ministerial Council. During the meeting, they discussed the progress of the agreement, including its benefits in deterring threats on NATO’s eastern flank, creating skilled jobs, and stimulating domestic investment.
One of the key outcomes of the meeting is the development of the new 2,000 km precision deep strike capability, which will be among the most advanced systems ever designed by the UK. This initiative aims to safeguard the British public, reinforce NATO deterrence, and strengthen both the UK and European defence sectors.
Another important focus was a joint procurement programme for Sting Ray torpedoes for P-8 Poseidon maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft. This collaboration will improve the UK and Germany’s ability to counter modern underwater threats, thereby enhancing national security for both countries.
Additionally, Germany committed to procuring advanced British military bridges, supporting the UK Government’s Plan for Change. This initiative is expected to support jobs in the North-west of England.
