The Royal Navy’s HMS Prince of Wales is at the head of the UK Carrier Strike Group, showcasing Britain’s advanced carrier aviation capabilities. She is joined in dual carrier operations by the USS George Washington, with both strike groups operating between the Australian mainland, Timor-Leste, and Indonesia.
“This is a powerful demonstration of the UK’s commitment to Indo-Pacific security,” said Royal Navy officials, as the UK and US forces showcased a united front. The operation features the UK’s F-35B Lightning jets, along with Merlin and Wildcat helicopters embarked on HMS Prince of Wales.
In the double carrier formation are nine major warships from five allied nations, including the Royal Navy’s HMS Dauntless and RFA Tidespring, the US Navy’s USS Robert Smalls and USS Shoup, the Royal Australian Navy’s HMAS Sydney, Norway’s HNoMS Roald Amundsen, and Canada’s HMCS Ville de Québec. This grouping highlights the depth of cooperation between allied naval forces.
All branches of the UK Armed Forces are participating in Talisman Sabre 2025. The deployment includes Commando Forces, a Ranger Battalion, RAF Voyager aircraft, Space Command personnel, cyber and electronic warfare experts, and military medics.
HMS Prince of Wales is delivering the UK’s carrier strike capability, operating under the protection of her escort ships as part of the task group. Meanwhile, amphibious raids are being conducted in northern Queensland and Shoalwater Bay, approximately 400 miles north of Brisbane.
