Ukraine produces over 100 Neptune missiles as mass production expands

By Defence Industry Europe

Ukraine has increased the mass production of its Neptune cruise missiles and introduced improvements to enhance their range, according to Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov. The announcement follows a meeting between Umerov and Ukrainian missile manufacturers to discuss future plans for the industry, including goals for 2025.

The Neptune missile gained prominence in 2022 when it was used to destroy the Russian Black Sea Fleet flagship, the Moscow cruiser. This operation highlighted the effectiveness of Ukraine’s domestically developed missile systems.

“Mass production of the R-360 Neptune cruise missiles has been successfully scaled, with improvements made for hitting targets at greater distances,” Umerov said. He also noted that this year marked the production of the first 100 missiles, signalling a significant milestone in the country’s defence manufacturing efforts.

In addition to the Neptune missile, Ukraine is working on developing drone-based missile systems such as the Palianytsia. This project represents a collaboration between the state and private sector, with additional input from international partners.

Earlier this month, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine had exceeded 100 domestically produced missiles, reflecting ongoing progress in strengthening its missile production capabilities.
