Ukraine proposes $50 billion drone deal with the United States, Zelenskyy says

By Defence Industry Europe

Ukraine has put forward a $50 billion proposal to supply 50 million drones to the United States over a five-year period, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on 20 August. The plan envisions both domestic production in Ukraine and joint manufacturing with American companies, according to Interfax.

The proposal is currently on hold as the White House, Kremlin and Zelenskyy consider possible peace talks in the coming weeks. “Probably, after the war, it will work,” Zelenskyy said.

U.S. President Donald Trump has pledged to buy Ukrainian drones once the country can place such systems on the export market after the conflict ends. “We have an agreement with the U.S. president that when we open exports, they will buy Ukrainian drones. This is important for us,” Zelenskyy said.

The Ukrainian government has set a goal of producing four million drones domestically in 2024, underscoring the scale of its defence industry ambitions. Last December, officials also committed to producing 30,000 long-range drones in 2025.
