UNION Technologies and Hanwha Defense USA have announced a strategic partnership aimed at expanding production capacity across the 155mm munitions ecosystem. The cooperation will initially focus on metal parts and components while exploring further collaboration in areas such as energetics.

The companies said the partnership is intended to strengthen the defense industrial base and improve supply chain resilience for the United States and its allies. Both firms aim to align their capabilities to support the production speed, quality and reliability required for modern defense manufacturing.

According to the companies, the initiative responds to increasing demand for large-scale defense production. They noted that maintaining deterrence depends on the ability to produce necessary equipment and materials quickly and consistently.

The collaboration will begin with work on 155mm metal components used in munitions systems. A joint working group will coordinate technical interfaces, quality standards and short-term execution priorities between the two organizations.

The partnership may later expand into additional areas, including the energetics sector. Both companies said further opportunities will be evaluated as the cooperation develops.

UNION Technologies focuses on engineering automated and software-defined manufacturing systems. Its approach integrates robotics, factory software and advanced manufacturing techniques designed to enable scalable and traceable production.

Hanwha Defense USA contributes experience in defense manufacturing and industrial production. The company brings expertise in components, advanced production processes and energetics.

Garrett Unclebach, chief executive officer of UNION, said maintaining industrial strength is essential for national security. “The West must retain industrial advantage.”

He added that modern manufacturing systems are necessary to meet current production demands. “Winning the production race requires factories that are modern by design: automated, traceable, and governed by real-time data.”

Unclebach said UNION’s role is to develop systems capable of expanding production capacity while maintaining consistent standards. “UNION builds those systems so capacity can expand fast while standards hold at mission scale.”

He also noted the complementary strengths of the partnership. “Our partnership with Hanwha Defense USA brings complementary strengths to grow 155mm metal-parts manufacturing now and increase future production pathways.”

Jeff Janey, executive vice president for munitions at Hanwha Defense USA, said the company aims to expand production capacity where it is most needed. “HDUSA is committed to strengthening the defense manufacturing base and expanding capacity where it matters most.”

Janey added that the partnership combines modern manufacturing concepts with established defense industry experience. “This partnership brings together UNION’s modern factory model and HDUSA’s defense industrial experience to support quality, scalability, and resilient production pathways for 155mm.”

He also emphasized the importance of disciplined execution in defense production. “We are aligned on disciplined execution, high standards, and building the industrial strength required to support readiness.”

The companies said the partnership is designed to support the United States and allied nations with modernized production capabilities. The initiative aims to strengthen the broader defense industrial ecosystem while enabling production to scale without compromising quality or operational standards.
