United States announces USD 500 million security assistance package for Ukraine

By Defence Industry Europe

The United States Department of Defense has announced a USD 500 million Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA) package to bolster Ukraine's defence capabilities. This marks the 74th tranche of equipment provided to Ukraine from U.S. inventories since August 2021, as part of ongoing efforts to counter Russian aggression.

The new package includes advanced air defence capabilities such as AIM-7, RIM-7, and AIM-9M missiles, alongside air-to-ground munitions. It also provides essential support for Ukraine’s integration of F-16 fighter jets, armoured bridging systems, secure communications equipment, and small arms with ammunition.

Additionally, the assistance includes spare parts, ancillary equipment, training, and transportation services to ensure the effective use of the provided systems. This comprehensive package aims to address Ukraine’s urgent defence needs and enhance its military capabilities on multiple fronts.

The Biden Administration’s commitment is part of a broader international effort to support Ukraine. The U.S. continues to collaborate with around 50 allies and partners through initiatives like the Ukraine Defense Contact Group to coordinate assistance and ensure Ukraine has the resources needed to defend its sovereignty.
