In a video message, Zelenskiy praised the IRIS-T SLM air defence systems, stating, “The brilliant IRIS-T systems have proven to be very effective in protecting our air space.”
He further acknowledged Germany’s provision of the highly effective PATRIOT air defence system, emphasizing Ukraine’s deep appreciation for the assistance. Following a phone call with Chancellor Scholz, Zelenskiy stated, “Ukraine is very grateful for this.”
During their conversation, Chancellor Scholz and President Zelenskiy discussed various critical aspects of the political, military, and humanitarian situation in Ukraine. According to German government spokesperson Steffen Hebestreit, Scholz reaffirmed Germany’s unwavering solidarity with Ukraine, emphasizing their “continuing and unwavering solidarity” and promising ongoing support, including in military terms, in close coordination with international partners.
In May, Ukraine received the second fire unit of the IRIS-SLM system, which is manufactured by German company Diehl Defence in cooperation with HENSOLDT and Airbus Defence and Space. The Ukrainian Air Force Command reported that the system demonstrated remarkable efficacy, achieving a 100 percent hit rate even during intense waves of attack with more than 12 targets. This delivery further strengthened Ukraine’s air defence capabilities in the face of ongoing threats.
