German defence manufacturer Rheinmetall has secured a contract with the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence to supply 155mm artillery propellant charge modules. The agreement, finalised in the fourth quarter of 2024, is valued at approximately EUR 9 million.

The deal entails the delivery of tens of thousands of propellant charge modules of various types, scheduled for completion in January 2025. Rheinmetall, renowned as a global leader in large-calibre ammunition and propellant systems, plays a pivotal role in modern artillery, where projectiles and propelling charges are loaded separately to achieve adjustable firing ranges.

This contract underscores Rheinmetall’s position as a critical partner in Ukraine’s defence against Russian aggression. The company’s comprehensive support, including equipment supply and strategic cooperation, has strengthened its role as a key ally to Kyiv.

In June 2024, during the Ukraine Recovery Conference held in Berlin, Rheinmetall and Ukraine signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at expanding their strategic collaboration. “The agreement identifies new avenues for joint efforts and highlights Rheinmetall’s commitment to supporting Ukraine’s defence and industrial resilience,” a company spokesperson noted.

Planned projects include producing artillery ammunition and delivering Lynx infantry fighting vehicles. Furthermore, Rheinmetall is set to assist in re-industrialising Ukraine’s national manufacturing capabilities, contributing to a sustainable and autonomous defence framework.
