The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has confirmed the killing of Muhammad Salah al-Za’bir, a senior figure within Hurras al-Din, an affiliate of Al-Qaeda. The precision airstrike took place on 30 January in northwest Syria.

According to CENTCOM, the operation was part of a broader effort to weaken terrorist networks operating in the region. The strike aimed to disrupt plans for attacks against civilians and military personnel in the U.S., its allies, and partner nations.

General Michael Erik Kurilla, commander of CENTCOM, stated that the U.S. remains committed to targeting terrorists who pose a threat. He emphasised that such operations will continue as part of efforts to safeguard American and allied interests.

Hurras al-Din, the targeted group, has been known for its connections to Al-Qaeda and its role in planning regional and international attacks. The latest airstrike reflects ongoing counterterrorism efforts by the U.S. in Syria and beyond.

CENTCOM did not disclose further details regarding the strike, including potential collateral damage.
