RTX announces leadership transition as Christopher T. Calio becomes Chairman of the Board

The RTX Corporation has announced the appointment of Christopher T. Calio as Chairman of the Board, effective 30 April 2025. This decision follows the planned departure of Gregory J. Hayes, who will step down as Executive Chairman and Board Member ahead of RTX’s 2025 annual meeting.

The RTX Corporation has announced the appointment of Christopher T. Calio as Chairman of the Board, effective 30 April 2025. This decision follows the planned departure of Gregory J. Hayes, who will step down as Executive Chairman and Board Member ahead of RTX’s 2025 annual meeting.

 

Greg Hayes has held the position of Executive Chairman since May 2024, having previously served as President and CEO following the 2020 merger of Raytheon Company and United Technologies. His leadership has been instrumental in shaping RTX’s strategic direction and driving its growth in the aerospace and defence sector.

Fred Reynolds, Lead Director of RTX, praised Hayes for his exceptional leadership over the past 35 years. He acknowledged Hayes’ role in navigating industry challenges and ensuring a smooth leadership transition that will continue to benefit RTX’s employees, customers, and stakeholders.

 

 

Christopher Calio has been a key figure in RTX’s leadership, serving as President and CEO since May 2024. Under his direction, the company has focused on operational excellence and technological innovation, aligning with the evolving needs of its global customers.

Hayes expressed confidence in Calio’s ability to lead RTX as both Chairman and CEO, emphasising his commitment to long-term strategic priorities. Hayes will continue to support the company in an advisory role as Special Advisor to the CEO until 2 January 2026.

Calio has a long history with RTX, having joined the company in 2005 and held various leadership roles across its business units. Before becoming CEO, he was President and Chief Operating Officer, overseeing the company’s technology, engineering, and operational functions.

 

 

Greg Hayes leaves behind a legacy of transformation, having played a pivotal role in shaping RTX into a focused aerospace company. His tenure saw major strategic moves, including the divestiture of Sikorsky Aircraft, the acquisition of Rockwell Collins, and the merger of UTC’s aerospace businesses with Raytheon.

RTX has expressed gratitude for Hayes’ contributions and leadership, recognising his impact on the company’s evolution and success. As Calio takes on the dual role of Chairman and CEO, RTX is poised to continue its growth and innovation in the global aerospace and defence industry.
