The Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency (NDMA) and Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace have signed a contract to double the spare parts inventory for the Norwegian Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS). This agreement will ensure the safe and efficient operation of Norway’s new NASAMS systems over the long term by expanding the availability of critical components.

Norway has announced an extension of its air defence mission in Poland, with Norwegian NASAMS air defence forces remaining in Rzeszów until the summer. The deployment aims to protect key supply routes essential for delivering both military and civilian aid to Ukraine.

Defence Minister Tore O. Sandvik emphasised Norway’s commitment to European security and the importance of ensuring that support reaches Ukraine. During his visit to Poland, he informed Polish Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz of the Labour government’s decision to extend the mission.

Poland plays a crucial role as a logistics hub for Ukraine, and Norwegian forces have been stationed there since December 2024 as part of NATO’s integrated air and missile defence. Norway initially deployed around 100 personnel, NASAMS air defence systems, and F-35 fighter jets to safeguard the airspace above Rzeszów airport.

The mission, originally planned to end after Easter, has been extended due to the ongoing need for security and stability in the region. Polish authorities have expressed deep appreciation for Norway’s continued support, highlighting the strengthening of Norwegian-Polish cooperation within NATO.

Sandvik acknowledged Poland’s extensive efforts to assist Ukraine and stressed that Norway’s contribution benefits both countries while reinforcing NATO’s collective security. He reiterated that national security considerations had been carefully assessed and that Norway’s own preparedness remains intact.
