The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has authorised three modifications of domestically produced pump-action shotguns for operational use within the defence forces. The decision was announced by the MoD’s Main Directorate for Support of the Life Cycle of Weapons and Military Equipment.

These Ukrainian-made 12-gauge pump-action shotguns are designed to fulfil various tactical roles. They are chambered for 76mm shells, which can be loaded with either slugs or shot, making them versatile for combat situations.

The pump-action shotguns are particularly effective in close-quarters combat due to their reliability and ease of use. They are well suited as secondary weapons for infantry in dense urban areas or narrow trench systems.

In the context of the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war, these shotguns have proven valuable as a countermeasure against enemy kamikaze drones. When loaded with shot, they are employed to target unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) at close range, especially as the drones approach their targets.

The shotguns are compact, featuring Picatinny rails that allow for the attachment of auxiliary equipment. This includes foregrips, reflector sights, flashlights, laser sights, and other accessories, enhancing their tactical versatility.

Their compactness is further improved by folding or telescopic stocks, which can be adjusted according to the shooter’s build. This feature ensures greater ergonomic adaptability and efficient handling in varied combat scenarios.

In addition to enhancing its domestic arsenal, Ukraine has also initiated licensed serial production of Western-model small arms. Among these is the Czech CZ Bren 2 assault rifle, which is favoured over the Kalashnikov for its ergonomic features, lighter weight, and modular construction.
