On 2 June, the U.S. Department of Defense announced a $1.1 billion contract modification with Raytheon, part of the RTX corporation, for the production of the 25th lot of AIM-9X Sidewinder air-to-air missiles. The contract covers manufacturing and delivery of missiles for the U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, and foreign customers through the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programme.

The order includes 1,756 AIM-9X-4 Block II tactical missiles and 242 AIM-9X-5 Block II+ missiles for international users. It also includes 187 training CATM-9X missiles, 13 dummy NATM-9X rounds, 6 flight test missiles, 30 MPTM training variants, as well as spare parts and conversion kits.

Work will take place in several locations across the United States, including Tucson, Arizona; North Logan, Utah; and Niles, Illinois, along with additional sites in Canada and Germany. Deliveries are expected to be completed by the end of October 2028.

Funding comes from U.S. Navy and Air Force procurement budgets for fiscal year 2025, as well as contributions from international FMS customers. Of the total, $597.2 million is allocated to foreign partners, with part of the funding set to expire at the end of the current fiscal year.
