Developed in partnership with General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), the PMT Plus represents the most advanced training system available for the MQ-9A Reaper. It offers a fully immersive environment that simulates real-world operational conditions, allowing aircrews to move to live aircraft operations with minimal transition.
The new trainer supports the Italian Air Force’s unique Operational Flight Program (OFP) and integrates Automatic Takeoff and Landing Capability (ATLC). Enhanced visual graphics and an upgraded instructor interface provide further improvements for Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) training missions.
“Our dedication to delivering tailored and high-quality training solutions, such as the PMT Plus, significantly contributes to the operational excellence of Italy’s defence forces,” said Marc-Olivier Sabourin, Division President, CAE Defense & Security – International. “This achievement underscores our longstanding collaboration with GA-ASI and our unwavering commitment to support the mission readiness of MQ-9 operators worldwide.”
CAE has a longstanding relationship with the Italian Air Force, having delivered the PMT Block 1 in 2018 – the first Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) trainer to achieve Zero Flight Time Training qualification. With a presence at 10 sites across Italy and over 15 years of experience in military flight training in the country, CAE continues to demonstrate its sustained support for Italian defence.
Recognised as a global leader in synthetic training for remotely piloted aircraft aircrews, CAE’s systems are becoming increasingly vital. As RPAs grow in importance for modern defence operations – from ISR missions to interdictions and close air support – the strategic value of advanced training solutions continues to rise.
