Israel Aerospace Industries achieves world’s first Boeing 777 passenger-to-freighter conversion

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has announced the completion of the first-ever conversion of a Boeing 777-300ER passenger aircraft into a freighter, receiving Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) approval from both the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Civil Aviation Authority of Israel (CAAI). The company said the newly certified B777-300ERSF, capable of carrying 100 tons, represents a major breakthrough in the global freighter market.

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has announced the completion of the first-ever conversion of a Boeing 777-300ER passenger aircraft into a freighter, receiving Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) approval from both the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Civil Aviation Authority of Israel (CAAI). The company said the newly certified B777-300ERSF, capable of carrying 100 tons, represents a major breakthrough in the global freighter market.

 

AerCap has been confirmed as the launch customer for the B777-300ERSF conversion programme, while Kalitta will act as the launch operator. IAI highlighted that the aircraft, one of the largest of its kind, will boost global shipping capacity and efficiency while reducing operating costs.
