“Visiting the 312th Fighter Squadron at Luke AFB was a powerful reminder of the depth and strength of the Belgian-American defense relationship,” said Bernard. “The seamless collaboration I witnessed between Belgian and U.S. forces reflects the high level of trust and coordination that defines our alliance.”
The 56th Fighter Wing serves as the primary training centre for Belgium’s new F-35 fleet, with the 312th Fighter Squadron playing a central role in preparing pilots and maintainers. During the visit, the delegation received briefings on the squadron’s activities and the integration of Belgian personnel into the training environment.
“The training at the 312th Fighter Squadron is unmatched,” said Lt. Col. Pierre-Yves Libert, 312th FS senior national representative. “The ability to integrate our pilots and maintainers into a diverse and dynamic operational setting prepares them for the arrival of the first jets in Belgium.”
The itinerary also included a walkthrough of academic training facilities and an up-close view of the F-35A. Maintainers from both nations used the opportunity to exchange experiences and strengthen cooperation at the operational level.
“The F-35 training mission is not just about equipment; it’s about furthering our shared defense priorities that strengthen transatlantic security,” Bernard added. “Belgium is committed to investing in our defense capabilities and standing shoulder to shoulder with allies.”
The visit allowed the 56th Fighter Wing to highlight its values of professionalism, training, and unit culture. The event showcased the expertise of U.S. and Belgian Airmen and reinforced a partnership seen as vital to maintaining a strong joint defence and ensuring readiness for future challenges.
