Finland began the Northern Strike 25-2 artillery exercise at the Rovajärvi training area in Lapland on 17 November 2025. The drill involves around 2,200 soldiers and more than 500 vehicles and systems under the lead of the Kainuu Brigade.

Units from the Pori and Jäger Brigades are taking part along with elements of the Finnish Border Guard. The exercise aims to test the full artillery operational chain from target acquisition to sustained operations in harsh winter conditions.

For the first time, Finland is hosting two Polish Homar-K rocket launchers and about 40 soldiers from the 1st Masurian Artillery Brigade. Their systems are integrated into Finnish command and fire control networks as part of the exercise scenario.

The drill focuses on coordinating dispersed artillery units and ensuring precise fire in low temperatures, snow and limited visibility. It is designed to strengthen interoperability, reaction speed and operational readiness among the participating forces.

Northern Strike 25-2 runs until 25 November with a final phase centred on coordinated live fire missions and joint command procedures. The exercise serves as a signal of unity, cooperation and preparedness among allied nations training in demanding northern conditions.
