The contract is valued at 625,591,000 euros excluding VAT and covers 231 systems and 934 missiles. It also includes training services, training ammunition, documentation, a simulator and logistic support.
The acquisition forms part of the “European Joint Acquisition of Mistral System” initiative coordinated by France. Romania is participating alongside Belgium, Cyprus, Estonia and Hungary.
Officials said the purchase is included in the Investment Plan for the European Defence Industry, drafted under the “Security Action for Europe – SAFE” Regulation. The Ministry of National Defence confirmed that parliament approved the MANPAD acquisition in June 2022.
