The European defence procurement agency OCCAR has commissioned a consortium of Hensoldt Optronics GmbH and Theon Sensors S.A. to supply additional night vision goggles to the German and Belgian Armed Forces. The order covers 100,000 units for Germany and 4,000 for Belgium and is intended to further strengthen European interoperability.

Since 2021, more than 50,000 night vision goggles have already been delivered to the two armed forces under the programme. The overall objective is to supply more than 178,000 units by the end of 2030.

The scope of delivery for the Mikron night vision goggles also includes an In-Service Support agreement. This is designed to strengthen the long-term night-fighting and operational capabilities of both armed forces.

“Night vision capability is essential in times of growing uncertainty – by equipping our soldiers with Mikron night vision goggles, we are giving them information superiority even at night,” said Michael Holzmann, Managing Director of Hensoldt Theon NightVision GmbH. Christina Canitz, Head of Division Optronics at Hensoldt, said: “Night vision equipment should not be considered special equipment,” adding, “I am delighted to continue our successful collaboration with Theon and that this contract will enable us to create further jobs in Wetzlar.”
