Safran Electronics & Defense has signed a major contract with the NATO Helicopter Management Agency for the development of Eurofl’Eye, a new distributed panoramic vision system for NH90 helicopters. The programme is being carried out in partnership with NHIndustries and Thales, and responds to the operational requirements of the French Direction Générale de l’Armement (DGA) and the Spanish Dirección General de Armamento y Material (DGAM).

Eurofl’Eye is a Distributed Aperture System that gives NH90 pilots a continuous panoramic view of their environment, including in night, dust or fog conditions. It uses six wide-field-of-view infrared cameras and delivers a real-time, pilot-aligned image to the TopOwl helmet-mounted display, improving situational awareness and mission safety.

“Eurofl’Eye will simplify access to essential information by integrating it directly into the field of vision of NH90 pilots,” said Alexandre Ziegler, Executive Vice President of the Defense Business Unit at Safran Electronics & Defense. He added: “This system will improve pilots’ responsiveness and decision-making, especially in the most degraded external conditions.”

The system will first be deployed on French and Spanish NH90 TTH helicopters. Its development phase will draw on the combined expertise of European industrial partners, reinforcing cross-border cooperation and operational capabilities for helicopter fleets across Europe.
