“This cooperation is a logical and natural step for us, and we see a great opportunity in this newly set cooperation to further develop our L-39NG training system,” said Filip Kulštrunk, Aero’s Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer.
In this collaboration, Saab will act as a subcontractor to Aero Vodochody. The primary objective is to conduct a feasibility study to modify the L-39NG aircraft, enabling it to provide comprehensive pilot training from basic to advanced levels for Hungarian pilots.
The initial phase of the collaboration will focus on this feasibility study. The findings will form the basis for a comprehensive joint study aimed at developing a new pilot interface and avionics system for the L-39NG. This enhancement will ensure compatibility with the Hungarian JAS-39 Gripen fighter aircraft, thereby streamlining pilot training and operational readiness.
Aero Vodochody and Saab share a history of successful collaborations. Their partnership dates back to 2008 with the L-159 combat and training system. In 2009, Aero began supplying pylons for the JAS-39 Gripen aircraft, used to carry various weapon systems or fuel tanks. This cooperation expanded in 2011 with the production of three additional types of pylons, all fully assembled and tested at Aero.
