Deliveries of the first Altay tanks fitted with Aselsan systems are scheduled to begin Tuesday. These tanks will feature high firepower, advanced survivability, and protection technologies tailored to modern combat conditions.
Aselsan’s integrated systems include the VOLKAN-II fire control system for precision targeting and a remote-controlled weapon system for engaging long-range threats. The tank command control information system forms a tactical network backbone, while the internal communication system ensures combat coordination.
Additional technologies include a laser warning system that alerts crews to targeting threats and a driver vision system for enhanced visibility in all lighting conditions. The Soldiers’ Second-Sight Vision Sub-Unit also supports improved gunner targeting and extended-range identification.
Aselsan’s AKKOR active protection system provides 360-degree defence, using radar to detect threats instantly. “Equipped with radar technology, the AKKOR detects threats instantaneously, raising the Altay to a protection tier possessed by only select armies worldwide,” the company said.
The Battlefield Identification and Recognition System allows rapid friend-or-foe classification during combat. The Orumcek (Spider) Close-Range Surveillance System provides high-resolution imaging, boosting target recognition and situational awareness.
An embedded simulator, the TMES, allows crew members to train using actual interfaces and downloaded scenarios. “This system enables crew members to conduct pre-operation scenario-based training with downloaded scenarios, ensuring personnel enter combat operations with comprehensive preparation and task readiness,” according to Aselsan.
Nationally developed periscope systems also support wide-angle, high-precision vision for Altay crew members. These systems improve detection and surveillance during combat operations.
Aselsan is now one of the few companies worldwide capable of developing all tank mission systems in-house. “The national capabilities developed in these systems have positioned Aselsan among the rare companies worldwide capable of developing all mission equipment for a tank in-house,” the company stated.
