BAE Systems and Kongsberg join forces to enhance U.S. combat vehicle capabilities

By Defence Industry Europe

BAE Systems has announced a new partnership with Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace to introduce the Integrated Combat Solution (ICS) to the U.S. defence market. This advanced tool aims to significantly improve battlefield situational awareness for combat vehicles, allowing soldiers to share critical data, such as video streams and target information, in real time.

The ICS tool will enable Warfighters to respond to threats more quickly, reducing reaction times from minutes to seconds. Developed by Kongsberg and integrated by BAE Systems onto combat vehicles, the system will support ongoing technology upgrades throughout its product lifecycle.

According to Andy Corea, vice president of BAE Systems’ Combat Mission Systems, the tool will allow troops to rapidly pass targeting data across the battlefield, enhancing their ability to engage remotely. The partnership brings together Kongsberg’s expertise in remote weapon systems and BAE Systems’ integration capabilities, offering U.S. forces enhanced combat readiness.

ICS is designed for use across the fleets of both the U.S. Marine Corps and Army, providing a critical advantage in modern warfare. The open-systems approach means it can be installed on any battlefield platform equipped with weapon systems and sensors, improving situational awareness and safety.

The integrated network links sensors on various battlefield assets, allowing soldiers to control weapon stations, turrets, and other systems from a single interface within the vehicle. Kjetil Reiten Myhra of Kongsberg highlighted that ICS will provide “all-domain visibility,” streamlining the response to complex threats.

The ICS system has already been successfully demonstrated on platforms such as the Amphibious Combat Vehicle (ACV) and the Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle (AMPV). BAE Systems and Kongsberg are looking forward to extending its capabilities across U.S. ground combat forces.
