BAE Systems has signed two contracts worth about $171 million to supply its Bofors 40mm and 57mm 3P programmable ammunition to Sweden and Finland. The joint procurement was placed by the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration and the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command.

Under the agreements, the Swedish Armed Forces will receive both 40mm and 57mm ammunition, while the Finnish Navy will receive 57mm rounds to supplement existing stocks. The pre-fragmented, programmable and proximity-fused ammunition is designed to counter a wide range of targets, including drones, missiles, helicopters, surface vessels and land threats.

Lena Gillström, President of BAE Systems Bofors, said the deal reflected close regional cooperation. “As a trusted partner to Sweden and Finland, this joint purchase marks an important step in further strengthening defence capabilities in the region and enhancing bilateral cooperation to keep Europe safe,” she said, adding, “We are delivering cutting-edge solutions to put our customers in the best position to meet future challenges.”

BAE Systems said the ammunition will mainly be used with the Stridsfordon 90 and naval gun systems operated by the Swedish Armed Forces. It will also be available to existing and future air defence units equipped with 40mm anti-aircraft guns to address a broad spectrum of aerial threats.
