The MoU reinforces the long-standing defence cooperation between Türkiye and the UK under NATO and highlights the strategic role of the Typhoon in European and Middle Eastern security. BAE Systems Chief Executive Charles Woodburn said: “This Memorandum of Understanding between the Governments of Türkiye and the UK underscores the importance of their long-standing defence co-operation through NATO and the critical role Typhoon plays in security and defence in Europe and the Middle East.”
The Typhoon is a multi-role, highly advanced fighter jet operated by nine air forces worldwide, known for its performance, reliability, availability, and survivability. In 2023 and 2024, Typhoon aircraft conducted 80% of operational missions flown by the Eurofighter partner nations—Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK—demonstrating the platform’s operational trust and effectiveness.
BAE Systems plays a central role in the design, production, and support of Typhoon aircraft, with significant work taking place at its Lancashire facilities. The programme supports approximately 21,000 UK jobs, many of which are highly skilled engineering roles, and contributes £1.6 billion to the UK economy annually.
As an export success, the Typhoon programme also delivers £1.4 billion in exports each year, enhancing the UK’s defence industrial base. BAE Systems confirmed it will work closely with both governments to formalise a future agreement on the procurement of Typhoon aircraft and associated systems.
