BAE Systems wins $68 million contract to build more CATV vehicles for U.S. Army

BAE Systems has received $68 million in U.S. Army contracts to produce 44 additional Cold Weather All-Terrain Vehicles (CATVs). The total includes a $48 million addition to an existing full-rate production contract from August 2022 and a separate $20 million award allocated for 2025 funding.

The CATV, part of the BvS10 family, is designed for extreme environments and is based on the unarmoured Beowulf variant. The U.S. Army selected Beowulf in 2022 to replace the older Bv206 platform for Arctic operations.

Beowulf is a dual-body, amphibious vehicle that offers the highest tactical mobility in its class. It is engineered to perform in areas inaccessible to other vehicles, with a modular design supporting missions ranging from military operations to disaster relief.

“The CATV provides a dynamic combination of mobility and flexibility to the U.S. Army enabling rapid response in all terrains,” said Dean Medland, vice president of Sustainment & International at BAE Systems. “We are proud to support additional CATV production for the U.S. Army and are confident that the vehicle’s go-anywhere ability and modular design will meet their future needs, allowing them to carry out a range of missions from military operations to humanitarian assistance and disaster response.”

Beowulf draws on proven driveline technologies used in the BvS10 vehicles currently deployed worldwide. This lineage contributes to the platform’s reputation for reliability, durability, and high system availability in challenging conditions.

Production of the Beowulf takes place at BAE Systems Hägglunds in northern Sweden. The location offers the benefit of direct Arctic operational experience, aligning with the vehicle’s intended use in extreme cold environments.
