The order includes 963 swap-body vehicles, some of which are equipped with protected driver cabins, as well as flatbeds and tarpaulin-arch superstructures. In addition, 425 unprotected transport vehicles (UTVs) in 4×4 and 8×8 variants are part of the request.
“As a reliable partner of the Bundeswehr, we are delighted to be delivering additional vehicles and thus contributing to the mobility and operational readiness of the armed forces,” said André Barthel, Chairman of the Board of Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles GmbH (RMMV). Deliveries of the roughly 1,400 vehicles are scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.
This latest delivery falls under a framework agreement signed in July 2024, which is the largest logistics vehicle order in the company’s history. The framework contract allows for the supply of up to 6,500 vehicles with a gross value of up to €3.5 billion over a seven-year period.
The contract enables the Bundeswehr to flexibly procure additional quantities of UTV models already in service, namely the 5-tonne and 15-tonne variants. A new 3.5-tonne 4×4 version, designed for maximum compatibility with the existing UTV family, has also been introduced under the agreement.
The UTV vehicle family has been in use by the Bundeswehr since July 2017, when RMMV was commissioned to deliver the ‘UTV mil gl’ models in cargo classes 5t and 15t. Since then, the vehicles have become a cornerstone of the Bundeswehr’s logistics operations.
To date, around 7,000 HX series vehicles have been delivered to the Bundeswehr, including swap-body systems and 70-tonne semi-trailer units. Both UTVs and swap-body variants are based on RMMV’s rugged HX vehicle platform, specifically designed for military applications.
These vehicles are known for their high mobility in challenging terrain and their compatibility with international operations. The HX family is used by more than a dozen countries, including the United Kingdom, Australia, Sweden, and Ukraine, with over 20,000 units in service worldwide.
