Czech Republic considers providing Ukraine with L-159 jets

By Defence Industry Europe

Czech President Petr Pavel has stated that his country may provide Ukraine with L-159 fighter jets to support their planned counter-offensive against Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

The L-159 aircraft is produced by the Czech aerospace company Aero Vodochody.

The L-159 is a modern, lightweight aircraft designed for various missions, including air support of ground forces, reconnaissance, and air combat. It features advanced avionics, weapon systems, and engine technology, making it a capable combat aircraft.

The L-159 has been in service with the Czech Air Force since 2000 and has also been exported to other countries, including Iraq and the United States.

Pavel believes that these planes could help Ukraine significantly in their counteroffensive efforts.

Any decision on military shipments falls to the government, but Ukraine is urging allies to overcome hesitation about supplying modern fighter jets.

Other countries, such as Slovakia and Poland, have already provided Ukraine with Soviet-era MiG-29 fighter jets. The Netherlands is also in talks on a potential donation of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine.

Ukraine is currently waiting for better weather before launching their long-promised counter-offensive.
