The mission aims to build operational experience with fighter aircraft in Arctic conditions, where weather and distance pose unique challenges. It also allowed the Danish commander of the fighter jets, Niels Andersen, to meet with base leadership during the brief visit.
“I received a thorough briefing about the base and how they solve their tasks under the sometimes harsh circumstances that the Arctic environment and location offer,” said Niels Andersen. The visit lasted approximately two hours before the aircraft departed the base.
The flight from Kangerlussuaq, the Arctic Command’s facility, to Pituffik was supported by a French MRTT aerial refuelling aircraft. This cooperation enhances the flexibility of flight operations in remote and challenging environments like the Arctic.
The French Air Force tanker had also supported the Danish fighter jets on their journey from Denmark to Greenland. It continues to operate alongside them during the ongoing deployment.
