The memorandum of understanding follows a formal Rafale offer submitted to Portugal’s government and air force in July 2026 for the renewal of the country’s F-16 fleet. Its signing at the French Embassy in Portugal brought the industrial proposal alongside the aircraft bid.
AED Cluster Portugal represents companies in the country’s aeronautics, space and defence sectors. Dassault said the Rafale partners already have a presence in Portugal and want to deepen cooperation with Portuguese industry.
The company said it sees that cooperation as a means of supporting Portugal’s economy and strengthening its sovereignty. The agreement identifies potential collaboration as its aim, without setting out specific projects or production commitments.
