The Israeli Ministry of Defense announced the successful completion of a planned series of developmental flight tests for the David’s Sling air and missile defense system. The tests were conducted amid the ongoing Swords of Iron war and following Operation Rising Lion.

Led by the Israeli Missile Defense Organization (IMDO) within the Directorate of Defense Research & Development (DDR&D/MAFAT) in the Israel Ministry of Defense, the tests were carried out in collaboration with the U.S. Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, the system’s prime contractor. The David’s Sling system underwent a series of live-fire tests simulating future threat scenarios.

“These tests are part of the operational learning process,” the Ministry stated, emphasizing the goal of enhancing the system’s capabilities to face threats across the IDF’s various combat arenas. According to the statement, the tests resulted in “a significant improvement” to the system’s performance.

The David’s Sling system has previously demonstrated its effectiveness, with “successful operational interceptions that saved lives and prevented substantial damage” during both the Swords of Iron War and Operation Rising Lion. The Ministry described the outcome of the current tests as “another significant breakthrough” in the system’s ongoing development.

Designed to intercept rockets, missiles, cruise missiles, aircraft, and UAVs, David’s Sling is a central element in Israel’s multi-layered air and missile defense strategy. It operates alongside other defense systems including the Arrow, Iron Dome, and the upcoming Iron Beam.

The system is jointly developed by the IMDO and MDA, with Rafael as the primary contractor and Raytheon Missile Systems serving as a subcontractor. ELTA Systems Ltd., a subsidiary of Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), develops the Multi-Mission Radar (MMR), while Elbit Systems is responsible for the Battle Management Center (BMC).
