The decision was made by Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen in agreement with the parties behind the Danish defence agreement for 2024–2033. It follows a broader plan to strengthen national readiness through the procurement of key military supplies.
The procurement is part of a wider effort to rebuild Denmark’s national ammunition production, a process that began when the Norwegian company Nammo was appointed operator. As this capacity is re-established, Danammo’s supply will serve to fill immediate gaps in the Danish Armed Forces’ stockpiles.
The agreement also reflects the defence political agreement’s earlier decision that an acquisition of both 155mm artillery and 120mm mortar ammunition should be carried out as soon as possible. This step ensures that national stockpiles can be built up in the short term, ahead of future domestic production coming online.
