Diehl Aviation launches construction of major new manufacturing site in Romania

By Defence Industry europe

Diehl Aviation officially broke ground on 30 July for its new production facility in Craiova, located in Romania’s Dolj region. The expansion forms part of the company’s strategy to strengthen its manufacturing footprint and meet rising demand in the aviation industry.

The Craiova site will primarily produce products and components for commercial passenger aircraft. It is intended to support reliable deliveries as aircraft production rates continue to increase worldwide.

Government representatives from Romania attended the ceremony, including Dorin Cosmin Vasile, President of Dolj County Council, Adrian Câciu, Member of Parliament for Dolj County, Alexandra Presură, Senator of Dolj, and Daniela Barbu, State Secretary at the Ministry of Labour and Social Solidarity. Their participation underlined the importance of the project for the region.

Craiova was chosen for its strong infrastructure, with direct access to highways and Craiova International Airport, which ensures efficient logistics and connectivity. The Dolj region also provides a high availability of skilled professionals to maintain production quality.

Diehl Aviation is investing a mid-double-digit million-euro amount in the site, which will offer more than 12,000 square metres of production and office space. Construction began with the groundbreaking on 30 July 2025 and is scheduled for completion by mid-2026, with production to begin shortly afterwards.

At launch, the facility will employ around 75 staff, with a medium-term goal of expanding to approximately 500 employees. It will collaborate closely with Diehl Aviation’s existing sites in Hungary and Germany, reinforcing flexibility and supply security across its European network.

The construction project is being led by Romanian company Global Vision, integrating local expertise into the development. This cooperation is expected to strengthen value creation and promote knowledge and technology transfer within the Craiova region.

“Our new facility in Craiova represents a strategic investment in Diehl Aviation’s future,” said Jörg Schuler, CEO of Diehl Aviation. “The combination of an excellent location, skilled talent, and strong local partners enables us to continue delivering high-quality and competitive products. We are pleased to take this important step together with the Dolj region and our local partner.”
